THE BASICS
Saint Louis began Atlantic 10 Conference play with a 3-0 loss at George Washington Friday, Sept. 21. The Billikens fell to 1-12, while the Colonials improved to 7-5.
FIRST SET
Following the sixth tie of the set, GW went on a 6-1 run to take a 16-11 lead. SLU pulled to within a point on four occasions, the final time 22-21, before the Colonials scored three straight points to take a 1-0 match lead.
SECOND SET
After a 6-1 spurt gave the Billikens a 10-6 advantage, GW answered with a 7-2 run to gain a 13-12 edge. SLU tied it at 13, but the Colonials tallied the next two points and maintained a narrow lead the rest of the way.
THIRD SET
Saint Louis scored the first four points and built a 13-7 cushion. GW took over from there, however, and outscored the Bills 18-7 to claim the set and the match.
NOTABLE
• Sara Daniels had a team-high eight kills, hit .312 (8-3-16) and led all players with four blocks.
• Lauren Mershon led all attackers with a .429 mark (7-1-14).
• Kennedy Cordia had 29 assists and 17 digs.
• Cayce Chaykowsky and Sien Gallop registered 15 and 12 digs, respectively.
• Monica Loftus contributed three blocks.
• Katia Haak recorded seven digs.
