THE BASICS

• Maya Taylor and Cayce Chaykowsky had match highs of 19 kills and 23 digs, respectively, but George Mason handed Saint Louis a 3-2 defeat Saturday night at Mason's Recreation Athletic Complex.

• The Billikens fell to 1-13 overall and 0-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Patriots improved to 3-9, 1-1.

FIRST SET

Saint Louis overcame an 11-6 deficit with a 7-1 run that gave the Billikens a 13-12 lead. George Mason responded with an 8-0 flurry and went on to win the set.

SECOND SET

Trailing 9-8, SLU tallied three straight points to take the lead for good. The Billikens gained some breathing room with a 4-0 run that created a 21-16 advantage, and they closed out the set to even the match 1-1.

THIRD SET

The Patriots led most of the way and were on top 20-15. The Billikens scored five of the next six points to narrow the gap to one, but Mason recorded the last four points.

FOURTH SET

Saint Louis notched the first five points and was in front 12-6 before seeing Mason storm back to forge a 20-20 tie. The Billikens were up to the challenge, however, scoring the next two points and hanging on to force a fifth frame.

FIFTH SET

The Patriots took command right away, sprinting to a 5-0 advantage. SLU scored the next three points, but that was as close as the Billikens would get.

NOTABLE

• Chaykowsky's 23 digs are a career high.

• Taylor completed a double-double with 10 digs.

• Sien Gallop matched her season high with 15 kills.

• Kennedy Cordia just missed a double-double with 43 assists and nine digs.

• Katia Haak contributed a season-high nine digs.

• Lauren Mershon had a team-high four blocks.
