Billikens Stay Hot, Win Fourth Straight

FAIRFAX, Va. – Javonte Perkins scored a team-high 25 points and the Billikens came out hot in the second half to post a 69-57 Atlantic 10 Conference victory at George Mason on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Billikens (22-8, 11-6 A-10) keep pace with Duquesne and St. Bonaventure and enter this weekend's season finale in a three-way tie for fourth in the league standings. George Mason dips to 15-15 overall, 4-13 in the league.

Saint Louis concludes the regular season on Saturday when it welcomes St. Bonaventure to Chaifetz Arena at 7 p.m. Depending on what happens in other games, the Billikens-Bonnies matchup could be for a double-bye in the A-10 Championship.

Against George Mason on Wednesday, Saint Louis shot 51 percent from the field, the sixth straight game SLU has shot 50 percent or better from the floor.

Perkins' 25 points came on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor. He scored 17 of them in the second half.

Hasahn French (eight points) recorded five blocked shots to become SLU's all-time single-season leader, surpassing Willie Reed's previous school record of 73 set back in 2009-10.

Goodwin scored 13 points and added a team-high eight rebounds. He also had three steals to reach second all-time at SLU for most steals in a career. Jimmy Bell Jr. added eight points for the Billikens.

The Billikens started hot for the second straight game, jumping out to a 9-0 lead. But George Mason responded and took a one-point lead into halftime.

SLU quickly regained the lead early in the second half, and used a 12-0 run to help build its lead to 16 with less than seven minutes remaining. But the pesky Patriots didn't go down quietly and drew within four of the lead with less than three minutes remaining.

With the Billikens reeling and clinging to a 53-49 lead, Terrence Hargrove Jr. hit a big 3-pointer from the right corner to spark the Billikens. SLU would go on to make their free throws down the stretch to post the double-digit road victory.
