ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis forward
Simon Becher is one of 15 semifinalists for the 2021 MAC Hermann Trophy, based on voting by NCAA Division I men's soccer coaches.
Â
The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer and has been awarded annually since 1967.
Â
Three men's finalists for the award will be named on Wednesday, Dec. 15. The 2021 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis on Jan. 7, 2022, to formally announce the recipients of this year's men's and women's Hermann Trophy.
Â
Becher, the 2021 Atlantic 10 Conference Offensive Player of the Year, led the Billikens in scoring and ranks second in the NCAA with 38 points (14G, 10A). He is the only player in the NCAA with 10+ goals and 10+ assists. Becher is the top point-getter amongst the 15 Hermann Trophy semifinalists.
Â
With a year of eligibility remaining, Becher has 71 career points (28G, 15A), ranking him 22nd in that category among all active NCAA Division I players. In addition to being named A-10 Offensive Player of the Year this season, Becher earned first-team All-Conference honors and was named a National Player of the Week by Top Drawer Soccer. Also, Becher earned Academic All-Conference honors for his work in the classroom.
Â
Becher transferred to SLU after beginning his collegiate career at Holy Cross, where he was a third-team All-Patriot League selection as a freshman. He has been called to U.S. National Team camps on three occasions.
Â
Becher helped the 2021 Billikens to a memorable season. SLU went through the regular season without a loss for the first time in 50 years, earned a national seed in the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time since 2003. Saint Louis finished the season with a 16-1-4 record.
Â
A Billiken has won the Hermann Trophy on five occasions –Â
Al Trost (1969 & 1970),
Mike Seerey (1971 & 1972) and
Dan Counce (1973).
Matt McKeon was the MAC National Player of the Year in 1995, an award that later merged with the Hermann Trophy.
