Elizabeth Mintusova and
Mariona Perez staged a dramatic comeback to clinch the doubles point for Saint Louis, and the Billikens rode the momentum to a 7-0 victory over Bradley Thursday afternoon on Senior Day at Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
Trailing 6-3 in the tiebreaker in their No. 1 match with Madalena Andrade and Kirstin Hailey, Mintusova and Perez rattled off five consecutive points to earn a 7-6 (8-6) win and a 1-0 lead for SLU. The Billikens and Braves split at Nos. 2 and 3, with
Norhan Hesham and
Lucija Faj posting a 6-2 triumph over Bozana Lojpur and Juliana Martinez at No. 3.
A forfeit at No. 6 singles put the Bills on top 2-0. Mintusova breezed past Andrade 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 and Hesham ousted Hailey 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 to clinch the match.
Perez defeated Maria Bezmenova 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3; Faj was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Nina Marjanovic at No. 4; and
Jessica Stefan topped Martinez 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5.
"Bradley brought the fight to us in doubles," head coach
Justin Stuckey said. "They are a well-coached team and have done well with their doubles play. We really stepped up during the important points to get the win. It was great to send our seniors out the right way with a win."
