ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University pitcher Charlie Weber has signed a free-agent deal with the Houston Astros.
Weber led the Billikens with a 2.89 ERA and a 4-1 record, recording four saves. He pitched 56 innings, struck out 58 batters, and held opponents to a .239 batting average.
In Atlantic 10 Conference play, Weber posted a 3.08 ERA, which ranked fifth in the league. He allowed just 13 earned runs in conference games, tied for second-least with his brother, Jack Weber. His nine walks were tied for the third fewest, and his 37 hits allowed ranked seventh in the A-10.
On April 12, Weber threw seven innings of relief against Davidson, earning the win and striking out 10. Both marks were career highs.
