ABOUT THE BILLIKENS

Saint Louis enters Friday's match with a 2-1 record. The Bills are looking to start the season 3-1 for the first time since 2021 and for just the second time in the last 31 years.

Last week, SLU defeated Ohio 3-1. It was the first win for the Billikens over the Bobcats since 1997. SLU followed the Ohio win with a 6-0 victory over Lincoln Memorial.

Sierra Larson scored three goals last week and was named the Atlantic 10 Conference's Offensive Player of the Week (read more). Olivia Smith leads the Billikens with seven points (3G, 1A). Abby Vidas (2G, 2A) and Larson (3G) have six points apiece.

Abby Schalow has played the majority of minutes in the cage. She has a 1.60 goals against average and has made 12 saves, including seven in the win over Ohio.

The Billikens' roster features three Louisville natives. Olivia Smith and Dawson Packwood are graduates of duPont Manual High School. Ella Kappesser graduated from Ballard High School.

ABOUT THE KNIGHTS

The Knights enter Friday's game 0-4. They dropped a pair of games on the road to Big Ten opponents last week, 2-1 to Michigan State and 13-0 to nationally ranked Michigan. Alicia Hudson and Anouk Richters have scored this season for Bellarmine.

SLU interim assistant coach Teresa Schmidt played five seasons at Bellarmine, appearing in 68 matches (66 starts) while accumulating 34 points (12G, 10A).

SERIES HISTORY

Saint Louis leads the all-time series against Bellarmine 10-3, though the Knights have won the last two. Last season, Bellarmine topped the Billikens 2-1 in overtime in St. Louis.

NEW COACHING STAFF

The Billikens are led by interim head coach Laura Hurff. She guided Rhodes College to a 14-6 record last season as interim head coach. An accomplished player in her own right, she was a four-year starter at Syracuse and helped the Orange win the NCAA Championship in 2015.

Assisting Hurff is interim assistant coach Teresa Schmidt, a St. Louis native who played at Bellarmine. Graduate assistant Bodhi Littlefield was a four-year starter at Ohio.

50TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON

This season marks the 50th anniversary of Billiken Field Hockey at Saint Louis University. The program began in 1975 under the direction of SLU professor and former Dutch national team player, Dr. Will van Beaumont.

UP NEXT

The Billikens' three-game roadswing continues next weekend with a pair of games in Pennsylvania. They open A-10 play in Philadelphia against Saint Joseph's on Friday, Sept. 19, then face Saint Francis in Loretto, Pa., on Sunday, Sept. 21.
