WASHINGTON –
Alyssa Koerkenmeier was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the second straight week and the third time this season, the league announced Monday.
The freshman center posted two double-doubles to extend her streak to four consecutive games and six in her last seven. Koerkenmeier averaged 16.0 points on 62.5% shooting, 12.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game on the week.
Koerkenmeier opened the week with a 20-point, 13-rebound performance at La Salle on Jan. 14, shooting 6-of-11 from the field and going 8-of-11 at the free-throw line. She followed with 12 points, 11 rebounds and a season-high six blocks against Dayton on Jan. 18. Her six blocks were the most by any player in Atlantic 10 play this season and are tied for the second most by any player nationally.
In conference play, Koerkenmeier is averaging a double-double and leads the Atlantic 10 in both rebounds and blocks. She is the only freshman in the league with a double-double and is tied for the conference lead with seven on the season.
