ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University senior midfielders Jeff DiMaria (St. Charles, Mo. / Christian Bros.) and Jason Mims (Memphis, Tenn. / Germantown) today were named to the Conference USA first-team All-Conference squad. They were joined by junior goalkeeper Paul Nagy (Grapevine, Texas / Grapevine). In total, eight Billikens earned various All-Conference honors in the annual voting of the league's coaches.
DiMaria is the team captain and leads the Billikens in scoring with 24 points (9G, 6A) as Saint Louis carries the No. 3 seed into the first round of the NCAA Tournament this weekend. Mims is the Bills' second-leading scorer with 22 points (8G, 6A) and was one of the hottest players in the country in mid-season when he scored in six-consecutive matches.
"As a group, our seniors have given this team outstanding leadership and brought us through some difficult challenges," Bills head coach Bob Warming said. "Jeff and Jason aren't the biggest guys on the field in stature, but you won't find people with bigger hearts. Meanwhile, Paul has made key saves for us at key moments in big games, and that's what you need from your keeper to be a championship team."
Senior defender David Williams (Dallas, Texas / Jesuit) climbed out of the shadow of outstanding former Billiken defenders to earn a spot on the second team. He is joined by freshman defender Jason Cole (Kansas City, Mo. / Rockhurst). They helped anchor a Billiken defense that was short on experience, but still good enough to capture a C-USA regular-season co-championship.
Senior midfielder/forward Vedad Alagic (St. Louis, Mo. / St. Mary's) and sophomore midfielder Joe Hammes (Cedarburg, Wis. / Marquette) landed on the third team. Alagic tallied seven of his 12 points and both of his game-winning goals in C-USA competition. Hammes was a physical force for the Billikens as their defensive midfielder.
Forward Jack Jewsbury (Springfield, Mo. / Kickapoo) joins Cole on the All-Freshman team. Jewsbury leads the Billikens with five game-winning goals and is the team's third-leading scorer with 20 points (8G, 4A).
The fourth-ranked Billikens (16-3-2) open NCAA Tournament action on Sun., Nov. 21 when they host Illinois-Chicago at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. Kick-off is set for noon.
