Field Hockey Billikens Lose to Pacific, 1-0

Stockton, Calif. - The Saint Louis University Billiken field hockey team was defeated 1-0 by the Pacific Tigers in Stockton, Calif., in a Northern Pacific Conference match on Sat., Oct. 14.

Under the sunny California sky, with the afternoon temperature in the mid-70s, the Tigers were prepared for the visiting Billikens. In the evenly fought match, Pacific's stamina proved stronger on their home grass field and gained its first win of the season as well as a league victory. The last time Pacific recorded a victory was Nov. 9, 1999.

In goal for the Saint Louis, junior Erin Linehan (State College, Pa. / State College Area) made seven saves before Nicolette Wiegand (Encintas, Calif.) scored the goal for the Tigers with just 5:59 remaining in the game.Wiegand's goal was a rebound off a penalty corner shot from junior Beth Vechinkski.

Senior Molly Monahan (St. Louis, Mo. / St. Joseph's) returned to the playing field after missing two games with a sore hip and added a defensive save in the Billiken effort.

Pacific improves to 1-10, 1-2.

The Bills are now 4-9 overall and 1-3 in league play. They will face the Golden Bears of California on Sunday afternoon in a 3 p.m. (CT) NorPac match at Berkeley.
