New Orleans, La. -
Sophomore Colleen Hunter drilled 28 kills, but it was not enough as Tulane ended the Saint Louis University volleyball team's three-match winning streak in Conference USA action on Saturday night. Game scores were 15-13, 13-15, 9-15, 15-4, 9-15. The Billikens fall to 9-11 overall, 3-6 in Conference USA. The Green Wave is now 12-8, 5-4 C-USA.
"Tulane played well and we didn't quite match their energy," said head coach Marilyn Nolen. "Colleen Hunter had another excellence match with 28 kills and Ember Knobeloch had a second-straight strong match with 13 kills. Beth Middendorf did a nice job coming off the bench to direct the offense and Dani Apted played well for us."
The Bills hit over .200 in both of the games they won, but struggled offensively in the three games they lost. The Billikens hit .205 and had one more kill than Tulane in taking a 1-0. Tulane responded with 20 kills in game two and held SLU to a .136 hitting percentage to tie the match. TU grabbed a 2-1 lead in game three but the Billikens answered with 13 kills and hit .250 in a dominating performance in game four. The Billikens appeared to have all the momentum, but Tulane answered the challenge and pulled out a 15-9 decision in the rally-score game.
Colleen Hunter drilled 28 kills and had seven digs for the Billikens. Ember Knobeloch added 12 kills and three blocks. Dani Apted led SLU with 11 digs while Beth Martin chipped in 10 digs and five blocks.
The Billikens travel to Chicago on Tue., Oct. 17 for a non-conference match at Loyola at 6 p.m.
