Field Hockey Billikens Defeat Lindenwood 7-0

St. Louis, Mo. - In a non-conference match, the Billikens defeated Lindenwood University 7-0. Junior Keri Brunner (St. Louis, Mo. / Cor Jesu) scored three goals and two assists for an eight point personal total in the match.

Junior midfielder Sue Albers (St. Louis, Mo. / Cor Jesu) opened the day's scoring just two minutes into the game with an assist from Brunner. Ten minutes later, Brunner fired back with an unassisted goal and closed the first half leading the Lions 2-0.

Lindenwood freshman goalkeeper Megan Evans made 13 saves in the match and was aided by an upgraded defensive unit from the teams' previous match this fall. Making defensive saves for the Lions were sophomore Tanya Entwistle and junior Mandy Smetana.

Saint Louis came on strong in the second half scoring five goals and not allowing the Lions a single shot on goal. Billiken goals were scored by: Lindsay Lombardo (St. Louis, Mo. / Nerinx) assisted by Stephanie Knight (Louisville, Ky. / Assumption) with 24:40 remaining, Knight from Albers (21:39), Kristen Burich (Louisville, Ky. / Sacred Heart) from Brunner (10:10), Brunner from Knight (6:12) and Brunner from Burich (3:58).

Junior Erin Linehan (State College, Pa. / State College Area) and sophomore Leslie Kearns (Edmond, Okla. / Casady) shared the shutout each playing one half of the match.

Saint Louis (5-10) will host Radford (2-10) on Sat., Oct. 21, in an 11 a.m. match at the Centre. Seniors Molly Monahan and Jenny Schwartz will be honored in their final home match as the University welcomes back 25 years of Billiken field hockey alums.

Saint Louis University will be the host school for the Northern Pacific Field Hockey Conference Championship Tournament which will be held Nov. 2 - 4 at the A-B Sports Centre. The 2000 NorPac member schools include: Appalachian State, California, Davidson, Pacific, Saint Louis, Southwest Missouri State and Stanford.
