St. Louis, Mo. -
Honored seniors Jenny Schwartz (St. Louis, Mo. / Cor Jesu) and Molly Monahan (St. Louis, Mo. / St. Joseph's), an alumni group and a good fan base could not save the Billikens today (Sat., Oct. 21) as they went down to Radford's Highlanders 2-0 in a non-conference match. This was the final home game for the Billikens as well as Senior Day and Alumni Day. The Billikens are celebrating 25 years of field hockey at the University.
The Billikens came out strong in the first half only to have the Highlanders take over with 25:46 remaining as Jamie Harris scored from Amanda Kitson on a penalty corner. Radford kept the pace of the game in the fast mode and the same pair scored another goal from a penalty corner with 16:06 left in the first half.
The Billikens took 10 shots on goal and were awarded four penalty corners to Radford's 15 shots and 10 penalty corners. Erin Linehan (State College, Pa. / State College Area) made five saves while the Highlanders' Brooke Peterson only needed three to sew up the game.
The pace was fast, the play intense and the Highlanders (3-10) dominated the day.
The Billikens fall to 5-11 and will face Northern Pacific Conference rival SMS in Springfield, Mo., for the final regular-season game on Sat., Oct. 28, at 11 a.m.
