Louisville's Bing Sun, this week's Conference USA co-Player of the Week, had 13 kills, five digs and four service aces to lead the Cardinals to a 3-0 sweep over the Saint Louis Billikens. Game scores were 15-10, 15-7, 15-11. Louisville extends its winning streak to eight and improves to 16-6 overall, 8-3 in C-USA. The Billikens fall to 11-13, 5-7 in the league.
Louisville used a 6-0 run midway through game one and eventually claimed a 15-10 decision. The Billikens had more kills than the Cards, but hurt themselves with seven more errors. In game two, Louisville grabbed an early 3-1 lead, but the Bills scored four-straight for a 5-3 lead. Louisville countered with five-consecutive points for an 8-5 margin. SLU scored two to close to 8-7, but the Cardinals went on a 7-0 run to win 15-7. The Cards hit .385 in the game and held the Billikens to an .029 hitting percentage in game two. Game three was tied at 8-8 before the Billikens edged out to take an 11-9 lead. Louisville tied the game at 11-11 and then Sun served two-straight aces, followed with a kill. The Cardinals closed out the run for a 15-11 decision.
Colleen Hunter led all players with 17 kills and 18 digs. Ember Knobeloch was effective for eight kills and Jessica Moss and Dani Apted both tallied seven digs. Shannan Swiney posted 32 assists. Sun led Louisville with 13 kills and Stacey Mercer added eight kills. Jing Ding handed out 37 assists and led Louisville with 11 digs. Kelly McClain notched 10 digs and Stacey Mercer had a match-high seven blocks.
