Cincinnati Rallies For 3-1 Victory In Volleyball Action

St. Louis - The Saint Louis Billikens were poised to take a 2-0 lead, but the Cincinnati Bearcats came back to win a thrilling game two by a score of 20-18 and rallied to post a 3-1 lead in Conference USA volleyball action on Sunday. The Bearcats improve to 19-6, 11-1 in C-USA. The Billikens dip to 11-14, 5-8 in the league.

The Bills jumped out to a 6-1 lead to open the match, but Cincinnati scored seven-straight to take an 8-6 lead. UC stretched the margin to 12-8 before the Billikens came back to score seven-consecutive points and take a 1-0 lead. In the crucial game two, Cincinnati led 14-10 before SLU stormed back with five points for a 15-14 lead. The Billikens had two more game points, but the Bearcats staved each one off and two SLU errors after an 18-18 tie gave the Bearcats the 20-18 decision. The game was the longest for the Billikens since a 21-19 game against Marquette back in 1992.

Cincinnati jumped out to an 8-2 lead and cruised to a 15-5 win in game three. The Bearcats his .400 and held the Billikens to just .030 in the game. With the score tied at 7-7, UC slowly stretched the advantage and moved on to a 15-11 win and the match.

Colleen Hunter posted 25 kills, 11 digs and eight blocks for the Billikens. Jessica Moss enjoyed a strong match and added 17 kills and 10 digs. Ember Knobeloch chipped in 12 kills. Dani Apted had 13 digs for the Bills. Setter Shannan Swiney handed out 54 assists. Trish Ladusaw posted 20 kills and 23 digs and Shauntel Miller had a match-high 24 kills.
