Kent State's field hockey team (5-3, 1-0 MAC) tied a school record and extended its home winning streak to 18 games in an 11-0 win over Saint Louis University (2-6, 1-4 NorPac).
Sophomore goalkeeper Leslie Kearns (Edmond, Okla. / Casady) started her second game of the 2000 season making 13 saves against the Golden Flashes. Unaided in her attempt, Saint Louis failed to make a single shot on goal in the match while Kent State made 36 shots. Kent State was awarded 18 penalty corners with the Bills receiving none.
Scoring for the Flashes came from four players in the first half with Jennifer Melnyk scoring twice and three unassisted goals from teammates Stephanie Mirner, Els Brower and Meagan Class totaling five for the half.
During the second half, goals were scored by Arlette van Cleeff (2), Kristen Johnson (3) and Els Brower from Kent for a six-goal period.
The Billikens will play two neutral site games next weekend, Sept. 22-23, against Providence and Michigan State in Evanston, Ill.
