The Saint Louis University volleyball team pulled out a 3-2 victory over previously unbeaten Southwest Texas State. In the process, the Billikens handed head coach Marilyn Nolen her 756th career victory. The win, ironically against her alma mater, boosts Nolen into fourth place on the all-time victory list, passing Southwest Missouri State's Linda Dollar who had 755 wins over 24 years. Nolen's career record is 756-296-12. Game scores were 15-10, 7-15, 15-8, 12-15, 15-7.
Senior Jessica Moss led three Billikens who posted double-doubles. Moss registered 17 kills and 17 digs and Colleen Hunter added her fifth-straight double-double with 13 kills and 18 digs. Brooke Minniear added 12 kills and a team-high 21 digs. In her first collegiate start, freshman standout Shannan Swiney handed out 39 assists and also dug 12 balls. Southwest Texas State saw five players tally double-doubles in the match. Shenequa Bedford had 15 kills and Jennifer Dallao had a match-high 22 digs.
After the teams split the first four games, the Billikens posted a sterling effort in the rally-scored fifth game. SLU notched eight kills on 13 swings, en route to hitting .615 in the decisive game. Southwest Texas struggled in the final game with seven kills and seven errors and hit .000 in the final game.
The Billikens improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Lady Broncs suffer their first defeat of the season at 6-1.
