Saint Louis University swimming and diving dropped its meet with Southwest Missouri State this afternoon at the Simon Recreation Center. The SMS men's team won 143-101, while the Lady Bears topped the Billikens 138-96.
On the women's side, junior diver Kristi Cottral took first in both the one-meter and three-mete competitions. Sophomore sprinter Meaghan Hildebrand picked up first place finishes in both her individual races as she posted season-best times of 26.19 in the 50 free and 57.53 in the 100 free. Freshman Megan Capellupo took first in the 100 breast with a 1:08.85. The 200 medley relay team of Kristin Lowe, Capellupo, Lindsay Tekotte and Darla Keiser also picked up a first-place finish.
For the men, freshman Bobby Wolf and SMS's Curtis Schroeger waged heated battles and split the top spot in the two events. Wolf took first in the three-meter with a score of 269.70 to Schroeger's 260.00. The duo switched places, by an even more narrow margin in the one-meter with Schroeger turning in a 257.10 to squeak by Wolf's 255.80. Junior Joe Valentino touched first in the 500 free with a time of 5:07.48. Both relay teams won their races with the 200 medley squad touching in 1:44.05 and the 200 free group posting a 1:31.21.
The Billikens will have their last home meet of the season on Sat., Dec. 1, at 11 a.m., against Eastern Illinois.
