ST. LOUIS -
Saint Louis University baseball dropped its second-straight game with a 13-1 loss to Southeast Missouri State this afternoon at The Billiken Sports Center. The Indians touched five Billiken pitchers for 15 hits and were helped by six Saint Louis errors.
Saint Louis starter Zach Placzek (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep) got off to a rough beginning as three SEMO singles opened the first inning. The Billiken sophomore settled down in the next two frames, but lost his rhythm in the fourth. SEMO's Vern Hatton and Tristen McDonald started with back-to-back doubles to start the four-run inning. Two more hits brought in two more runs before Placzek turned the game over to sophomore Dan Parker (Balwin, Mo./SLUH).
With a 5-1 lead, the Indian offense did not let up. After scoring one run in the fifth and two in the sixth, SEMO capitalized on two more Billiken errors to post five runs in the eighth and seal the game.
The Billiken offense was on its heels throughout the game, recording multiple hits in only one inning. The lone highlight of the evening was a shutout-preventing solo home run from sophomore Steve Moss (Arnold, Mo./St. Pius X) in the bottom of the ninth.
These teams square off again Wed., March 28, at Cape Girardeau, Mo., at 4 p.m.
