Swimmers Falter at SMS

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University swimming and diving dropped both halves of a double-dual meet at Southwest Missouri State Friday night. The Billiken men fell to host SMS 87.5-25.5 and to Louisiana-Monroe 64-47. The women were defeated by SMS 88-25 and narrowly lost to La.-Monroe 59-54. The Bears dominated the meet, capturing all but eight first-place finishes in the meet's 26 total events.

On the women's side, freshman Megan Capellupo continued her run of first-place finishes as she touched first in the 200 IM with a season-best time of 2:13.85. Junior diver Jenny Hurst picked up the Bills' other first-place finish with a score of 223.10 on the one-meter board. Junior Tessa Truesdell finished second on the three-meter board with a score of 227.05, just barely passing Hurst's third-place score of 226.35.

For the men, freshman diver Bobby Wolf picked up first with a score of 241.70 on the three-meter board. Junior Neil Senkowski finished second in the 100 free with a time of 49.72.

The Billikens travel to Eastern Illinois on Sat., Feb. 2, for their last tune-up before the first Conference USA Championship, which will be held in Indianapolis, Ind., on Feb. 17-19.
