Volleyball Wins Fourth Straight By Sweeping TCU 3-0

St. Louis - Colleen Hunter pounded down 27 kills to lead the Saint Louis University volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep over TCU in Conference USA action. Game scores were 30-23, 35-33, 30-26. The sweep pushed the Billikens' win streak to four matches.

The Billikens jumped out to a big lead in game one and cruised to the win. With the score tied 4-4, the Bills tallied four straight points on Colleen Hunter service. The Billikens eventually extended the lead to as many as 10 points at 18-8 and eased to the seven-point victory. Hunter had seven kills as the Billikens hit .283 in game one. TCU managed just a .143 hitting percentage as SLU notched four team blocks.

Game two was extremely well played and was tight throughout. The Billikens lead for most of the early going until TCU rallied. The Billikens led by four, but the Horned Frogs came back to tie the game at 23-23. The Billikens used two Hunter kills and a TCU error to take a seemingly safe 28-25 margin. Two Horned Frogs' kills and two SLU hitting errors pushed TCU to game point at 29-28. The teams traded points and took the lead on a Hunter kill for a 31-30 lead. The Billikens had a swing to end the game but the ball was just long and tied the game 31-31. TCU again had a kill for game point but Colleen Hunter again had the answer for the Billikens to tie the game 33-33. A TCU error gave the Billikens their first game point, and Colleen Hunter converted an overpass for an easy kill to end the marathon game 35-33. The offense for both teams was tremendous as TCU hit an incredible .419 in a losing effort. The Billikens hit a sparkling .365 themselves and had four more kills than TCU.

In game three, the Billikens took the early lead and held off a late TCU rally to close out the match. The Billikens led 24-19 before Colleen Hunter took over. She notched three kills in a span of four points to give the Bills a comfortable margin at 27-20. The Saint Louis offense sputtered a bit with four straight hitting errors as the Horned Frogs edged closer at 28-24. An Colleen Hunter ended the match with a kill down the middle of the TCU defense for a 30-26 win.

Colleen Hunter led the Billikens with 27 kills and hit .408 for the match. She added nine digs and four blocks to the SLU attack. Colleen Hunter now needs 14 kills to top the 2,000 plateau for her career. Ashley Hunter nearly doubled her career high with 13 kills and hit a sparkling .478. Brooke Minniear added 12 kills and had a team-high 15 digs. Setter Beth Middendorf handed out 44 assists for the Bills. Dominika Szabo led TCU with 16 kills and added five digs. Stephanie Watson chipped in 11 kills while Jenn Cuca had a match-high 17 digs.

The Billikens are now 13-6 on the season, 3-0 in Conference USA. TCU dips to 8-11 overall, 0-3 in C-USA.
