Oct. 22, 2002

Final Stats

Birmingham, Ala. - The Saint Louis University volleyball team dropped its second straight Conference USA tilt, getting swept at UAB on Tuesday 30-20, 30-27, 30-26. After winning four straight to open C-USA play, the Billikens lost at South Florida on Saturday before the loss to UAB.

The Billikens were sluggish in game one and finished with only 10 kills and hit .162 in the game. The Bills were much better in game two, posting 16 kills and hitting a match-high .216. However, the Blazers also had their best game of the match with 24 kills and hit .321 in the second game. The Billikens hung tough in game three, but were edged down the stretch by UAB.

"We just did not play well tonight, while UAB did," head coach Marilyn Nolen said. "UAB had a lot of success hitting against out blocking and had a good offensive attack. We started off slowly and our offense did not click tonight."

Senior middle hitter Colleen Hunter paced the Billikens with her 48th career double-double, posting 17 kills and 10 digs. She moved past DePaul's Stephanie Bishop for second place all-time in Conference USA history with 2,060 career kills. Freshman outside hitter Ashley Hunter added nine kills while Jessica Kmitta had a team-high 13 digs. Freshman setter Lauren Boissevain handed out a career-high 21 assists. Kristi Lee topped three Blazers in double figure kills with 18. Dina Katsoulis finished with a match-high 14 digs for UAB. The Blazers hit .305 for the match against the Bills, who have the second best opponent hitting percentage in C-USA.

The Billikens drop to 14-8 overall, 4-2 in C-USA. The Blazers have now won three straight and improve to 10-13, 3-3 in C-USA. The Billikens return home on Friday with a match against Marquette on Oct. 25, at 7 p.m.
