Billikens End Memphis' Nine-Match Winning Streak 3-0

Memphis, Tenn. - The Saint Louis University volleyball team ended Memphis' nine-match winning streak with a 3-0 road victory. Game scores were 30-38, 30-28, 30-27. The Billikens have jumped out to a strong start in Conference USA play, with two road wins to begin C-USA play.

Game one was tied 28-28, but the Billikens used two straight blocks to close the game. The Billikens only hit .075 for the game, but held Memphis to just an .045 hitting percentage and tallied five blocks in the opening game. Game two was close in the early going until the Billikens moved out for a 23-18 lead. The Bills slowly pushed out and had game point at 29-24. But Memphis made things interesting by scoring four straight for a 29-28 SLU lead. Ember Knobeloch ended the UM run with a kill and a 2-0 Billiken lead. Game three saw the Billikens lead early, Memphis rally late, but SLU closed out the match with a three-point win. The Billikens had 16 kills to 12 for Memphis in the last game.

Colleen Hunter paced the Billiken attack with 14 kills, added a match-high 12 digs and had six blocks. Knobeloch added 11 kills and chipped in five blocks. Brooke Minniear finished with six kills and registered a team-high 11 digs. St. Louis native Tiara Gilkey had a double-double for Memphis with 12 kills and 10 digs, to go along with four blocks. Brittany Barnett added 10 kills for the Tigers. Both teams were outstanding on the defensive end as the Billikens had 11.0 team blocks while Memphis had 12.0 blocks.

The Billikens improve to 12-6 overall, 2-0 in Conference USA. Memphis sees its' long winning streak end and dips to 13-5 overall, 0-1 in C-USA.
