Nov. 2, 2002

Final Stats

Cincinnati, Ohio - The Saint Louis University volleyball team's three-match winning streak came to an abrupt halt in a 3-0 loss at Cincinnati on Saturday. The Bills, coming off an important win at Louisville on Friday, were unable to build on that loss and were swept by scores of 30-16, 30-26 and 30-24.

The Billikens managed to grab an early lead due to their defensive efforts, but saw the lead slip away in a flurry of hitting errors. In game one, the Bills finished with just four kills and hit only -.300, including a staggering 16 errors. The Billikens led 8-7, but UC rattled off an incredible 14-3 run to take control. The Bearcats only hit .176 themselves but generated enough offense with their blocking to grab the early 1-0 lead.

In game two, the score was tied 5-5 until the Billikens rattled off five straight points. SLU held at least a three-point lead for most of the way, including at 19-14, before Cincinnati rallied. UC slowly came back and tied the score at 25. With the score tied again at 26-26, Julie DuPont and Bonita Wise had two kills each as the Bearcats took a 2-0 lead.

Game three was extremely close as neither side held more than a one-point margin until the Billikens took a 12-10 lead. The Bearcats managed to tie the game at 14-14 and once again neither team lead by more than one point. With the game tied 20-20, the Bearcats tallied three straight points for a 23-20 lead. A Brooke Minniear kill ended the run, but UC strung together three consecutive points, including two key aces. The Bearcats closed out the match at 30-24.

Brooke Minniear added six kills and 10 digs, while Ember Knobeloch was outstanding defensively with seven blocks. Trish Ladusaw posted a double-double for UC with 15 kills and 14 digs. Julie DuPont had 20 kills and hit a sparkling .381, while Bonita Wise added 11 kills, seven digs and seven blocks for the Bearcats.

Saint Louis falls to 17-9, 7-3 C-USA, while the Bearcats improve to 17-6 overall, 8-1 C-USA slate.
