Saint Louis Field Hockey Closes Out Homestand With Central Michigan

Sept. 15, 2002

St. Louis, Mo., - Saint Louis fell to 1-4 with the 4-1 loss to Central Michigan.

The match began with even vollies between the respective ends of the turf as the two teams sought control. With 19:20 remaining in the first half, sophomore midfielder Michelle Fogle netted the first goal of the day. The goal came after a flurry of quick shots and rebounds following a penalty corner for the Chippewas with Fogle's shot finding its way between the pipes.

The duel continued between the two squads with freshman midfielder Carin Boone (Loveland, Ohio / Ursuline) receiving a smooth pass from sophomore Ellen Rapp (St. Louis, Mo. / Ursuline) and earning the goal with 4:35 left in the half.

In the first period of play, Saint Louis made two shots on goal to Central Michigan's ten shots. Senior keeper Leslie Kearns (Edmond, Okla. / Casady) made four saves with the Billiken back line aiding her effort with four defensive saves. As tough as the defense played today, the offensive line was not able to score more than the one goal.

Central Michigan scored three goals in the tenaciously played second half to improve its record to 4-2. Janel Spero minded the net for the Chippewas.
