Loyola (Chicago) became the first nonconference team to sweep the Billiken volleyball team at home in nearly five years with a 3-0 decision over Saint Louis at the Bauman-Eberhardt Center on Wednesday. Game scores were 28-30, 22-30, 24-30. The last non-Conference USA team to sweep SLU at home was Southeast Missouri State midway through the 1997 season.
Game one was a back-and-fourth affair. The Ramblers jumped out to an early lead, but the Billikens rallied. SLU led by as many as five points in the late going, but Loyola rallied. Saint Louis led 27-25, but the Ramblers forced a tie at 28-28. The Billikens committed a hitting error and Loyola killed their first chance to take a 1-0 advantage. Jorie Miguel and Shari Davis both tallied six kills to pace Loyola. The Loyola offense picked up in game two as the Ramblers hit .286 while holding SLU to a match-low .045. Loyola's defensive blocking was outstanding as they recorded 6.0 team blocks in game two and moved on for a 30-22 win in game two.
