The Saint Louis University volleyball team grabbed an early 2-0 over host Loyola Marymount, but LMU rallied to win the final three games for a 3-2 victory. Game scores were 27-30, 21-30, 30-20, 30-22 and 15-8.
The Billikens started the match quickly and hit .312 in game one to take a lead. The SLu defense held the Lions to just a .059 margin. The Bills continued their impressive early run and took game two by hitting .225 while LMU dropped to just a .049 hitting percentage. LMU went to its backup setter and responded. The Lions hit .303 in the third game and a sparkling .350 in the deciding fifth match.
Colleen Hunter posted a double-double with 20 kills and 10 digs while adding a career-high four solo blocks. Brooke Minniear checked in with her own double-double with 14 kills and a match-high 22 digs. Jessica Kmitta continued her impressive play with her own double-double, 10 kills and 14 digs. Kristen Gallup led the Lions with kills 16 and added10 digs, while Kealani Kimball also had a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs. Freshman Michelle Look led the team with 15 digs.
The Billikens drop to 4-2 on the season, while LMU improves to 4-1. Saint Louis takes on Notre Dame to close out the tournament at 7 p.m. (CT).
