Final Stats

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Saint Louis University women's soccer tallied a 2-0 victory over Drury tonight at Hutchings Field. The Billikens got goals from a pair of freshman to back the shutout goalkeeping of Amanda Martin. With the win, SLU improves to 7-2-1 overall, while Drury falls to 5-6-1.

The Panthers got the first shot off, but it was their only one of the first half as the Billikens controlled play throughout the period. With nine shots in the opening 45 minutes, SLU forced Panther keeper Jennie Grib into five saves. Freshman Dee Guempel put the Billikens on the board in the 35th minute after superb play from freshman Maureen Hughes. Guempel had the ball on the left side and sent a serve in to the near post. Grib came out to collect the cross, but Hughes intercepted the ball just before she arrived. With Grib on her back, Hughes sent the ball back to Guempel who struck an 18-yard arc into the upper right corner.

SLU added an insurance goal in the 80th minute off a free kick. Senior back Anny Lucier launched a long serve to the right post where sophomore Christie Cigno and freshman Anna Schuch attacked the serve. Cigno touched it back to Schuch who touched it in from four yards out.

The Billikens are back in action on Sun., Oct. 5, at SMS for a noon kickoff.
