SLU drops its first NorPac Match of the Year to Davidson

Oct. 23, 2004

Final Stats

Davidson, N.C. - Davidson defeated Saint Louis, 2-1, in overtime this afternoon in a NorPac league match at Davidson. The Billikens fell to 5-7, 3-1 on the year and the Wildcats improved to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in NorPac play.

At the end of regulation, the score was tied, 1-1, but the ensuing overtime period lasted only 1:46, with Wildcat junior Molly Blackman scoring the gamewinner on a possession following a penalty corner.

Reminiscent of yesterday¹s one-goal match between the two teams, the first half remained scoreless until Saint Louis junior Carin Boone put away her fourth goal of the season on an assist by senior Ellen Rapp after nearly 42 minutes had ticked off the clock. Boone also scored the only goal in yesterday¹s 1-0 Saint Louis win over the ¹Cats.

After going into the break with a 1-0 deficit, Davidson responded early by scoring its first goal of the weekend on an Emily Davis shot. Despite a combined 19 second-period shots, neither team was able to collect another goal for the rest of regulation, forcing the overtime period.

The Billikens registered 17 shots overall, with scoring leader Rapp tallying seven on the day, while Hughes led the Wildcats with five shots. Defensively, Wildcat freshman Jen Willis helped keep the Saint Louis attack from penetrating the cirlce at will, while senior Sarah Nolan was credited with saves in goal. Moeckel denied eight of 17 Wildcat shots to bring her weekend save total to 15.

Saint Louis travels to Radford, Va., for a pair of conference games against the Highlanders on Oct. 25 and 26 with both games scheduled for 1 p.m.
