Final Stats
Davidson, N.C. -
Saint Louis' field hockey team concluded its season with a 2-0 shutout loss against Davidson in Friday's Northern Pacific Conference Tournament consolation game at Belk Turf Field, in Davidson, N.C. The Billikens final record (5-13, 3-3 East) is their best overall finish since 2001 and is the best-ever NorPac finish.
In today's game, while the two teams were evenly matched with 11 shots apiece, it was Davidson who put away a pair of goals in the second half to
take the win. With the match still scoreless after the break, freshman Eleanor Cowley connected for a goal at 37:49 on an assist from
classmate Kayli Maxwell. Cowley's goal was her second of the tournament,
having notched one against California in yesterday's 5-1 loss. Twenty minutes later, junior Molly Blackman scored Davidson's final goal of the season. The goal came on the fourth attempt in a series of Wildcat shots on goal, finally putting the ball past Billiken keeper Julie Moeckel, who registered six saves in the match, including three in that series alone.
Moeckel posted a 1.87 GAA on the season and recorded 95 saves. Moeckel was aided by her teammates juniors Stephanie Bus (2), Jill Mueller (2), sophomore Michelle Sinclair (3), and freshmen Rita Murphy (1) and Natalie Slyman (1) with defensive saves on the season.
