Divers Hit NCAA Standards for Sweep at Lindenwood

ST. LOUIS - Divers Bobby Wolf and Erin Lasinski qualified for NCAA Zone competition on both boards in Saturday's clean sweep of three opponents at the St. Peters Rec Plex. The Billiken women topped host Lindenwood 96-24, Lincoln College 100-16 and Illinois Tech 80-32. The men also picked up three wins at the meet, knocking off Lindenwood 88-33, Lincoln College 76-43 and Illinois Tech 77-42.

The men posted seven individual event victories, including the diving sweep by Wolf. The senior was flawless on one meter, running away from the competition with a score of 321.00. He went on to lap the field again on three meter, scoring 332.30. Lindenwood's Tom Lucido finished second more than 70 points behind Wolf on both boards. Junior Christopher Johansen added wins in the 500 and 1000 free. Freshmen Chad Niemeier and Ryan Poss picked up the victory in the 100 back.

The Billiken women dominated the meet with 10 victories in 14 events. Eight of those wins came in individual events, including a pair of victories for senior Megan Capellupo in the 100 fly and 100 breast. Katie Kotowski kicked off four straight event victories for the Bills, touching first in the 200 free. Emily Oberjohn followed with a win in the 50 free, while Kelly Tessar claimed first in the 200 IM. Lasinski won the one-meter diving competition with an NCAA qualifying score of 256.30. The sophomore finished second on three meter, but still qualified for NCAA competition with a score of 274.20. Sophomore Jenny Valentino finished first in the 100 back, and Lauren Yates picked up the win in the 500 free.

With the victories, the Billiken women remain perfect at 15-0. The men improve to 10-5 on the season. The teams have two more dates on the schedule before traveling to Houston for the Conference USA Championships. Saint Louis takes on host Eastern Illinois on Sat., Feb. 5, then heads to Indianapolis for a double-dual meet with Valparaiso and Butler.
