Billikens Drop 2-1 Decision Against Saint Joseph's

Fenton, Mo. - Saint Joseph's used two first-half goals to top Saint Louis 2-1 in Atlantic 10 field hockey action this afternoon at the Anheuser-Busch Center.

Saint Josephs' Lauren Luft got things moving for the Hawks three minutes into the contest when she scored an unassisted tally off of Saint Louis keeper Amy Wasserman. Katelyn O'Brien then netted the game winner in the 19th minute on a deflection off a Katie Young pass.

Saint Louis cut the lead in half in the 23rd minute when Catherine Donovan scored off a Michelle Sinclair pass. Sinclair collected a rebound in the circle and fed Donovan for her third goal of the year.

The Billikens offense had several chances in the second half to tie the game but could not get past Hawk keeper Rebecca Cunfer. SLU's best chance came in the 47th minute when the Billikens were awarded a penalty stroke, but Kristen Lueders sent the chance high and wide left.

Saint Louis outshot the Hawks 12-7 on the afternoon and held a 6-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Saint Louis continues Atlantic 10 play next week when it travels to West Chester for a Fri., Oct. 21 match. The Bills then take on La Salle Sun., Oct. 23.
