Field Hockey Drops 1-0 Decision To Ohio

Fenton, Mo. - The Saint Louis field hockey team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to visiting Ohio University this afternoon at the Anheuser-Busch Center.

The two teams battled through a scoreless first-half, marked by 10 Ohio penalty corner chances, a solid SLU defensive effort and a 20 minute delay due to an injury to the Bobcats Lindsay Roghenberger. Ohio (5-6) outshot the Bills 13-2 in the first half, but SLU goalkeeper Amy Wasserman made 10 saves to keep the game knotted at 0-0.

The second half was more evenly played, as the Bills possessed the ball more and had several opportunities, despite being outshot 3-1 in the half. Ohio finally was able to break the scoreless tie at 57:13. Celine McNamara fed the ball from the near sideline past a charging Wasserman. Torrie Albini collected the pass and put it into the middle of the net, for the games only goal.

Wasserman finished the game with 12 saves in her 70:00 of action. Her Bobcat counterpart, Jennifer Cote, made three saves in her winning effort.

The Bills did not record a penalty corner in the contest, while the Bobcats finished with 13. Ohio also dominated the game in shots recorded, 16-3.

Saint Louis will take to the road on Mon., Oct. 3 for its final non-conference game of the year, at 7:00 p.m. at Missouri STate. The Bills opened the 2005 campaign against Missouri State, winning 2- 1in overtime on Aug. 27. The Bills return home for their first Atlantic 10 contest on Fri., Oct. 7 versus Rhode Island at the AB Center.
