Philadelphia - Saint Louis University's Catherine Donovan scored and SLU's defense allowed only two shots on goal as the Billikens topped La Salle 1-0 in Atlantic 10 Conference field hockey action Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia.
With the victory, Saint Louis (7-10 overall, 3-3 A-10) keeps its chances alive for qualifying for the Atlantic-10 Championships. Only the top four teams advance to the post-season tournament, hosted this year by Temple University in Philadelphia Nov. 4-5.
Donovan scored the only goal the Billikens would need in the 58th minute. Mary Henry was credited with an assist on Donovan's fourth goal of the season.
SLU's defense held strong on the day, allowing only two La Salle (3-15, 1-5) shots on goal. The Billikens also turned away nine Explorer penalty corner chances. Amy Wasserman once again stood tall in net, turning aside both Explorer shots in earning her second-consecutive shutout.
Saint Louis will close out the regular-season portion of its schedule when it plays host to league-leading Richmond next Sunday at the Anheuser-Busch Center. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
