Billikens Beat Rhode Island 2-1 In Atlantic 10 Opener

Oct. 7, 2005

Final Stats

Fenton, Mo. - Freshman Mary Henry scored two first-half goals to lead the Saint Louis to a 2-1 victory over Rhode Island in the Billikens' first Atlantic 10 Conference game. The victory pushes the Billikens to 5-7 overall, 1-0 in the A-10. The Rams fall to 5-6 overall, 0-1 in the A-10.

Henry pumped in a goal from the left side off a feed from Catherine Donovan just 17 seconds into the game for the early 1-0 Billiken lead. The duo combined again off a penalty corner at the 15:10 mark for a 2-0 Bills' lead. Annie Kane cut the SLU lead in half when the Rams struck at the 21:22 mark. After a scramble in front of the SLU net, Kane deflected the ball in to draw URI to 2-1.

However, Billiken goalie Amy Wasserman stood tall in the net and kept Rhode Island off the board the rest of the way. She made three saves to stymie the Rams the rest of the first half and registered two more second-half saves to post the Billikens' second straight triumph. The win was the fifth on the season for the Bills, already matching last season's total.

The Billikens continue A-10 Conference action on Sunday, Oct. 9, with a 1 p.m. match against Massachusetts at the A-B Center in Fenton.
