St. Louis - The Saint Louis University men's and women's swimming and diving squads both picked up victories against Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Wednesday afternoon at the Simon Recreation Center. The women cruised to a 193-82 victory and the men knocked off IUPUI 161-135.
On the women's side, the Billikens won all but two of the 16 scored events. Erin Lasinski got the Billikens on the right track by sweeping the diving events. She collected 261.80 points in the one-meter dive, and followed that up with 276.90 points on the three-meter board. Both of those totals are season highs for Lasinski.
Elena Ramirez captured top honors in three events. She posted a Billiken season high in the 1000 free with a time of 10:42.65. She then touched first in the 200 fly (2:10.72) and the 500 free (5:16.93).
Kelly Tessar won two events. She finished first in both the 100 back (1:01.27) and the 200 IM (2:12.44). Emily Oberjohn finished first in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.65. Katie Kotowski led all swimmers in the 100 breast, finishing in a time of 1:12.96. Jenny Lutzen won the 50 free in a time of 25.63. Touching first in the 100 free was Maggie Norton with a time of 55.70. Jenny Valentino won the 200 back in a time of 2:18.23.
Both relay squads also finished first for the Bills. Their 200 medley relay team of Jenny Lutzen touched in 1:54.72. The 200 free squad of Emily Stuifbergen, Norton, Oberjohn and Kotowski finished in 1:43.43.
On the men's side, it was a collective team effort as the Billikens came from behind to pick up the win. The 200 medley relay team of Kevin Parker, Tim Adams, Josh Stephens and Brad Byars got the Billikens on the board with a first-place time of 1:38.00.
Adam Trafton picked up the win in the 200 free, finishing in a time of 1:48.20. Stephens captured first-place accolades in the 100 back, finishing in 54.38.
In a three-event stretch midway through the competition, the Billikens garnered three first-place finishes and two-runner up honors to take a lead they would not relinquish. In the 200 fly, Parker and Chad Niemeier finished first and second, respectively, with times of 1:59.07 and 2:01.07.
In the 50 free, the Billikens placed three swimmers in the top three. Byars finished first with a time of 21.97, followed by Steve Sash (22.61) and Adam Trafton (22.75). Byars also finished first in the 100 free with a time of 48.92.
B.J. Brungardt led all swimmers in the 500 free with a time of 4:58.84. Parker picked up a first-place finish in the 100 fly, touching in 54.25.
SLU's 200 free relay squad of Niemeier, Trafton, Chris Johanson and Sash finished first in a time of 1:31.91.
The women move to 9-0 on the year, and increase their dual winning streak to 27. The men improve to 6-3 in duals this season.
