Fenton, Mo. - The Saint Louis Billikens field hockey team opened its 2005 campaign with a 3-0 exhibition win over Lindenwood University at the Anheuser-Busch Center. The Bills dominated play, out-shooting the visitor 24-4 on the afternoon.
Sophomore Catherine Donovan opened the scoring at 33:15 when she tapped a cross from rookie Jessica Dalton behind the Lions keeper.
SLU extended the lead 5:14 into the second half of play, converting on a penalty corner. Junior Michelle Sinclair inserted the ball to senior Jamie Smeland who put it on the stick of freshman Christine Frampus, who netted the goal. Senior Stephanie Bus would wrap up the offense with just under 12 minutes to play, with an unassisted goal.
Lindenwood controlled play in the opening minutes, putting its first shot on net, but sophomore goalie Amy Wasserman made the stop. She made two saves on the day, including a strong effort on a Lion breakaway in the second half. Her Lion counterpart Jennica Albertson made 14 saves.
