Field Hockey Rallies For 3-2 Win Over Central Michigan

Sept. 2, 2005

Box Score

Fenton, Mo. - The Saint Louis field hockey team tallied three unanswered goals to rally for a 3-2 win over visiting Central Michigan this afternoon at the Anheuser-Busch Center. The win improves the Billikens record to 2-0 for the first time since 1993.

The game-winning goal capped three Billiken tallies in a span of 9:50 in the second half. With 20:40 left to play in the contest, Ashlea Hibshman redirected a cross from Jill Mueller inside the post, for the 3-2 advantage. Amy Wasserman preserved the win, making two saves in the final 79 seconds of action.

Mueller had started the scoring for SLU nearly 10 minutes earlier. She took a pass from Kristin Lueders on the left side of the Chippewa cage, and snaked the ball between the keeper and the post.

Lueders also assisted on the tying goal. She was up top to receive a penalty corner feed from Michelle Sinclair. After missing on her first attempt at a shot, Lueders found Sinclair as she came off the end line, and she knocked home the tying goal.

The Chippewas (0-1) had the only goal of the first half, as Alisa Folk scored just 9:13 into the game. Central Michigan seemed to take control of the contest in the second half, when Samantha Sandham tallied her second assist, feeding Alicia Balanesi, with 32:36 left to play. Sinclair put the ball into the far corner, past a sprawling Danielle Frank.

Wasserman earned her second win of the year in net for the Billikens. In playing all 70 minutes, she made six saves. Frank had six saves as well in a losing effort for the Chippewas.

The win snapped a seven-game series-losing streak for the Billikens against CMU. The Bills last defeated the Chippewas 4-2 during the 1989 campaign.

The Billikens return to action on Sun., Sept. 4, when they host New Hampshire. That game, to be played at the Anheuser-Busch Center, is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
