Field Hockey Drops 2-0 Decision To New Hampshire

The Saint Louis field hockey team suffered its first loss of the season this afternoon, dropping a 2-0 decision to New Hampshire at the Anheuser-Busch Center.

The Wildcats got all they would need 34:41 into the first half, when Michelle Tavener converted a penalty stroke. The stroke was awarded after Billiken goalkeeper Amy Wasserman pushed a UNH player in front of the crease.

In the second half SLU (2-1) had two breakaway chances to tie the score. Mary Henry had a breakaway with 28:00 to play, but pushed the ball wide as Wildcat keeper Margaux Shute came off her line to challenge. The result was the same 7:18 later, when Catherine Donovan and Courtney Gasparovic had a breakaway opportunity.

UNH added an insurance goal with 16:46 to play in the game. Emily Colton collected a ball that was deflected by Wasserman, and put it in the back of the cage, for the 2-0 lead.

UNH out shot the Billikens 8-5 in the game, and did not allow a SLU shot in the first half of play. UNH earned seven penalty corners, to the Billikens five.

Wasserman made four saves in her 70:00 of play, while Shute had three saves in earning the shutout.

The Billikens return to action on Fri., Sept, 10, in East Lansing, Mich. The Billikens will take on Michigan State on Friday and James Madison on Friday.
