Billikens Wrap Regular Season With Sweep At Eastern Illinois

Feb. 6, 2006

Charleston, Ill. - Saint Louis men's and women's swimming and diving closed out its regular season on a high note, topping Eastern Illinois Saturday at the Lantz Natatorium in Charleston, Ill. The men came out ahead 134-108, while the women secured a 149-92 victory.

With the win, the women's team ends the season 14-0, the second-straight year they have finished undefeated. In all, the women's team has won 32 consecutive dual competitions. The men end the year 10-4.

Emily Oberjohn, Elena Ramirez and Kelly Tessar all won two events in the pool, while Erin Lasinski once again swept the events on the boards.

Oberjohn won the 200 free in a time of 1:57.77, and touched first in the 500 free with a time of 5:15.86. Ramirez finished first in the 200 IM, touching in 2:13.42. She also finished first in the 100 free with a time of 54.57. Tessar claimed the 200 back (2:12.72) and the 200 breast (2:24.20) on her way to a two-win day. Lasinski mustered 231.20 points on the three-meter board and 217.30 on the one-meter.

B.J. Brungardt led the men's team with two wins. He touched first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:22.05. He then won the 500 free, touching in a time of 5:01.97.

Perhaps the best performance of the day came from Brad Byars, who lowered his best time in the 100 free to 46.65. That mark should put him in the top five in the A-10 in the event.

Chad Niemeier swam a season-best time in the 200 IM, touching in 1:59.87. Kevin Parker won the 200 fly (1:58.08) and Tim Adams finished first in the 200 breast (2:17.64).

The Billikens will take a week off as they prepare for the A-10 Championships, held Feb. 15-18 in Buffalo, N.Y.
