Bills Roll to 3-0 Win at La Salle

Oct. 12, 2007

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - Sophomore outside hitters Bridget Fonke and Sammi McCloud each posted 14 kills as the Saint Louis volleyball team (14-5, 3-2 A-10) easily handled La Salle 30-19, 30-15, 30-24 for its fourth-straight win.

The Billiken offense hit at a .200 clip in game one, good enough to power past the Explorers, who had eight hitting errors and four kills. La Salle (9-15, 1-5 A-10) led by one early but SLU quickly took control with a Whitney Behrens ace and kills by Fonke and McCloud sandwiched around a couple Explorer hitting errors. The Bills cruised to victory with the help of Lauren Christman's game-high six kills.

SLU ran out to a 5-0 lead in game two courtesy of a pair of McCloud kills and three La Salle errors. The Explorers got on the board when the Bills committed a hitting error but Saint Louis scored the next four points for a 9-1 advantage. La Salle was out-matched on the front line as Fonke and Sutton Lasater each hit over .600 in the game-two victory.

McCloud and Fonke propelled the Bills to victory with six kills each in game three. Saint Louis scored the first three points and never looked back as it hit a match-best .306 in the final game. La Salle also got it together on offense with a .189 hitting percentage but SLU proved too powerful as the Bills claimed the game and match victory.

Behrens led three SLU players in double-figure digs with 13 while Whitney Roth collected a match-high 49 assists. With nine service aces, Saint Louis surpassed last season's total (144) with nine regular-season matches remaining.

SLU returns to the court tomorrow when it takes on A-10 foe Temple at noon (CT).
