Roth helps Billikens to Sixth-Straight Win

CHARLOTTE - Saint Louis held Charlotte's Cori Dayton, one of the top hitters in the Atlantic 10, to just eight kills and a .073 hitting percentage as the Billikens (16-5, 5-2 A-10) rolled to their sixth-straight win with a 30-24, 30-24, 30-20 victory on Friday evening in North Carolina.

The Bills jumped out to an early lead in game one until the 49ers rallied to tie the score at points seven through 10. Charlotte (11-11, 1-6 A-10) gained the lead one of Alma Arroyo's team-high 10 kills. SLU regained the lead for good on a Sutton Lasater kills at 16-15. Sammi McCloud led the Billikens, who his .244 to Charlottes, .088, with five kills. The final margin was SLU's largest lead of the game.

Both teams had their best offensive efforts in game two. Saint Louis hit .320 while the 49ers hit at a .152 clip. SLU led in the early-going until Charlotte evened things up at 7-7. The Niners then went on an 8-2 run for a 15-9 advantage. The Billikens gradually chipped away at the lead tying the score at 22-22. They then took the lead and never relinquished it for the game-two victory. McCloud had seven kills in game two.

Game three was much like the first two with SLU leading early before Charlotte went ahead. Trailing 10-8, the Bills put together an 11-0 run that included eight 49er miscues, a pair of Megan Boken service aces and a kill by Lasater to go up 19-10. Saint Louis led by as many as 12 points while holding Charlotte to a negative hitting percentage for their fifth-consecutive league win.

Whitney Roth recorded her team-high ninth double-double of the season with 33 assists and 11 digs. McCloud led SLU with a match-high 15 kills while Sally Warning contributed 10 kills and a career-high tying seven blocks.

Bridget Fonke's streak of consecutive matches of double-digit kills came to an end at 20 as she had just eight kills in the win. She had recorded double-digit digs in the first 20 matches this season.

SLU returns to the court at 11 a.m. (CT) on Sunday when it takes on A-10 foe George Washington in Washington D.C.
