ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis swept Atlantic 10 leader Xavier 30-20, 30-28, 30-24 to earn its eighth straight win and hand Xavier its first conference loss of the season. The Billikens (18-5, 7-2 A-10), who snapped the Musketeers' nine-match win streak, attracted the 10th largest crowd in Bauman-Eberhardt history with 632 fans in attendance.

"Sammi (McCloud) played out her mind tonight," SLU head coach Anne Kordes said. "She did an awesome job, and Whitney Roth had an amazing match keeping our offense going. This is a huge win for us but now we're got to look forward to Dayton on Sunday."

Outside hitter Whitney Roth posted her team-high 10th double-double of 2007 with 47 assists and 10 digs. With five blocks, middle blocker Sutton Lasater became just the fourth Billiken in program history to surpass 1,000 kills and 500 blocks. She now has 1,093 kills and 502 blocks for her career.

Game one began with a kill from Roth and the Bills then went on to score the first four points. SLU held a 12-point lead four times throughout the match. Senior Sutton Lasater led the game with seven kills followed by sophomore Sally Warning's five. The Billikens, who never trailed in game one, out-hit XU .425 to .211.

The two teams battled back and forth in the early part of the second game until Saint Louis went on a four-point run to push the lead out to 10-5, the largest advantage of the game. The Musketeers gradually chipped away at that lead eventually tying the score at 14-14. Things remained close throughout the game with five ties but SLU eventually came away the 30-28 victor. Fonke had a game-high nine kills. Xavier's Hillary Otte tallied six kills followed by four from Kelly Ruth.

Xavier gained its first lead of the match early in game there by scoring the first three points. The Bills stayed behind until a kill from Fonke tied the game at 6-6 and SLU never trailed again with its biggest lead being nine points at 26-17. McCloud led the Billikens with seven kills followed by Fonke's six.

SLU held Xavier's Jill Quayle, one of the top hitter in the league, to a Musketeer-high nine kills. XU falls to 20-7, 9-1 in the A-10.

The Billikens, who improved to 7-0 at home this season, play again Sunday when they host #17 Dayton at 1 p.m. in the Bauman-Eberhardt Center.
