Final Stats
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -
After sticking with #19 Texas A&M (14-1) through the first three innings, the Aggie offense proved to be too much for the Saint Louis baseball team (1-7) as it fell 14-3 in its second game at the Domino's Pizza Aggie Baseball Classic at Olsen Stadium in College Station, Texas.
Both teams put up two runs in the first inning before Texas A&M pulled ahead in the top of the second (SLU was the home team). Craig Stinson got the inning started with a double to right center and moved to third on a groundout. He scored on a Brandon Hicks sacrifice fly to push Texas A&M ahead by one.
The Billikens evened the score in the bottom of the third when J.D. Dunn drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. After moving on to third on a SLU groundout, the freshman scored on Greg Rodgers' RBI single to left field to make it 3-3. But the Texas A&M pitching staff allowed just four hits the rest of the way to prevent Saint Louis from scoring any more runs.
The Aggies put up six runs in the top of the sixth on seven hits to pull away for good. Texas A&M got three straight one-out singles, a double steal and a squeeze play to go up by three. Four hits and two steals later the Aggies were up by six.
Texas A&M added two runs in the eighth after the Billiken pitching staff surrendered three walks, a single and a hit batsman. It tacked on three more in the ninth on a two-run triple by Blake Stouffer and a Darby Brown RBI single for the final score.
Starter Brock Hewitt (0-3) suffered the loss for the Bills. He allowed six runs on six hits, a walk and two strikeouts. Reliever Kiel Renfro (2-0) picked up the win with six strikeouts, a walk and two hits in 4-1/3 innings.
Casey Moore led the Billiken offense with a pair of hits, while J.D. scored two runs. Stouffer led the Aggies with a 3-for-5 effort at the plate and five RBI. Texas A&M ran its win streak to 13 games with the victory.
Tomorrow the Billikens take on defending national champion #9 Oregon State at 12:30 p.m.
