Inclement Weather Halts Baseball

May 1, 2007

ST. LOUIS - Persistent rain and lightning in the area forced Saint Louis and Missouri State to stop their baseball game in the top of the second inning. The teams waited out a two-hour rain delay before agreeing to cancel the contest.

The Billikens had taken an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first after two walks and a pair of Missouri State errors. The Bears surged ahead in the top of the second, capitalizing on a pair of walks and a hit batter. Brayden Drake plated the tying run with a triple to straight-away center field then scored the go-ahead run on Nolan Keane's single just under the glove of Casey Moore at third base.

The first flashed of lightning came at 3:57 p.m. during a pitching change for the Billikens. When the weather continued through 6:10 p.m., the coaches and umpires agreed to end the delay. No stats from this game will be counted for either team, and there are currently no plans for a makeup date.

Saint Louis returns to The Billiken Sports Center on Fri., May 4, in an Atlantic 10 Conference game against Saint Joseph's. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
