PEORIA, Ill. -
Saint Louis rebounded from its first loss of the season last weekend with a commanding three-game win over Bradley (30-22,30-23,30-21) on Friday evening at the Braves' Radisson Hotel Invitational in Peoria, Ill. The Billikens' third shutout of the season helped them improve to 3-1, while BU drops to 0-5.
"(Lauren) Christman had an awesome match offensively and blocking," head coach Anne Kordes said. "She really set the tone, driving the ball hard and opening things up for the outside.
"We had some injuries to Sammi (McCloud) and Sarah (Entzeroth) and other players really stepped up. Megan Boken played all the way around for Sammi, and she did an incredible job. Our team played with a lot of emotion against a good team from a good conference. It was a huge win for us."
The Bills built early leads in all three games to cruise to the match victory. SLU out-hit the Braves in every game for a match hitting percentage of .307, while Bradley only hit at a .131 clip.
Bridget Fonke turned in a double-double with a team-high 17 kills and a career-high 12 digs. She also led the team with a career-high four service aces. Christman was the only other Billiken in double-figure kills with a season-high 15. Boken was just two kills shy of a double-double with a career-high eight and a season-best 12 digs.
The Billikens return to action tomorrow at noon against Montana, followed by a 5 p.m. match against Western Illinois to round out the tournament.
