Billikens Shut Out Jaguars 3-0

ST. LOUIS - Lauren Christman and Bridget Fonke tied for match-high honors with 11 kills as Saint Louis defeated IUPUI 30-17, 30-27, 30-23 during Saturday's first match of the Santo Bento Volleyball Invitational at Saint Louis University. The Billikens will close the tournament with a match against Connecticut at 7 p.m.

The Billikens led the entire first game winning 30-17. SLU started with two 6-0 runs early in the game followed by a 9-0 run. Freshman Elyse Groh had a career-high five kills. The Jaguars posted nine errors and six kills to earn a -.068 hitting percentage.

IUPUI led 3-2 in game two until the Billikens scored four straight to take a 6-3 lead. The Jaguars then came back and took a 10-9 lead. The Billikens answered with four straight points for a 13-10 margin. IUPUI eventually tied the game at 19-19. With Whitney Behrens serving, the Billikens went to a 24-19 lead. The Jaguars slowly cut into SLU's lead drawing to 29-27 before Roth's kill ended the game. The Jaguars improved to a .200 hitting percentage in the second game, but it was not enough to contain the Billikens.

IUPUI took the early lead in game three and led 10-6. Lauren Christman had three kills during a 5-2 SLU run as the Billikens edged closer at 13-12. The Bills eventually took a 16-15 lead. IUPUI held its last lead at 18-17 before the SLU tallied four straight for a 21-18 lead it would not surrender the rest of the way. An IUPUI hitting error ended the match. The Billikens posted five errors and 21 kills to earn a .356 hitting percentage to IUPUI's .200.

In addition to Christman's 11 kills, she had a match and season-high eight blocks while hitting .350. Whitney Behrens had a team high 13 digs.

Devika Bellamy had 10 kills to lead IUPUI, and Danielle Goodnight registered a double-double with 25 assists and 16 digs.

The Billikens hit .290 for the match while holding IUPUI to just a .096 hitting percentage. In addition, the Billikens blocking controlled the contest with 10 team blocks to just two for IUPUI.

The Billikens are now 7-2 while the Jaguars are 5-5.
