Box Score
BRADENTON, Fla. - Another solid outing by junior right-hander Casey Moore (Lake St. Louis, Mo./Holt) cracked his first home run of the year, a solo shot in the sixth inning.
With the win, the Billikens continue their season-best four-game winning streak and improve to 6-7 on the year. Dartmouth falls to 2-2 on the season.
Turmail, who earlier this season garnered Atlantic 10 Conference Pitcher of the Week honors in addition to CollegeBaseballInsider.com Regional Player of the Week accolades for his complete-game shutout against Belmont, scattered just three hits in eight innings of work. He walked one and fanned six hitters on the day.
He was awarded plenty of run support early as Saint Louis jumped on top quickly in the bottom of the first. Senior first baseman Greg Rodgers (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell) walked, and advanced to second on a single by sophomore DH Mike Beal (St. Louis, Mo./SLUH). Sophomore David Blackwell (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) then drove in Rodgers with a single to the right-center field gap.
The runs continued to pour in for SLU as it plated two more runs in the second. Moore reached on a base hit, and ended up scoring on a dropped fly ball by the center fielder off the bat of J.D. Dunn (Franklin, Tenn./Centennial), resulting in a three-base error. Junior Tom Pinnell (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) then put a ball in play that was booted by a Big Green infielder to plate Dunn and put the Billikens on top 3-0 through two innings.
After tacking on another run in the third, Moore put the Billikens on top 5-0 with his first homer of the year in the sixth. The shot cleared the fences down the left-field line, giving him eight home runs for his career.
The Billikens would score three times in the seventh. Sophomore Andrew Guerra (Dallas, Texas/Rice) stroked a two-run double to plate Rodgers and Blackwell. Sophomore Brandon Parsons (Stow, Ohio/Stow Munroe Falls) then drove in Guerra with an RBI base-hit for the 8-0 final.
Freshman reliever Mike Zimmermann (St. Louis, Mo./DeSmet) made the first appearance of his career when he spelled Turmail in the ninth. He did not allow hit, struck out one and worked around an error. Senior Ryan Bennett (Kansas City, Mo./Rockhurst), who was injured for much of the preseason, had his first hit of the season on a pinch-hit single in the bottom of the eighth.
The Billikens, who are in the midst of a six-day, five-game stay in Florida, face UMBC at 9 a.m. (CT) Monday following a day off on Sunday.
