INDIANAPOLIS -
Saint Louis freshman Katie Kolster shattered the school record in the 500 free and the 1000 free and helped the women's swimming and diving team to a 131-105 victory at IUPUI in Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon. The Billiken men's team finished first in 10 of 13 events en route to a 137-97 win over the Jaguar men's squad.
Kolster started the meet with a first-place effort of 10:24.72 in the 100 free. That mark beat Elena Ramirez's previous school standard (10:37.95) established in 2006 by more than 13 seconds. The rookie went on to touch first in the 500 free in 5:06.22, which betters Emily Oberjohn's previous record of 5:09.82 set in 2007 at the Atlantic 10 Championships.
Anna Larson was the only other member of the Billiken women's team to win more than one individual event as she placed first on the one- (244.55) and three-meter (286.20) boards. Her three-meter effort ranks seventh in SLU annals. Other first-place finishers for the women's team were Katie Ising in the 200 free (1:59.49), Jillian Smith in the 100 breast (1:13.44) and the 200 free relay (1:46.40).
Kevin Parker and Jimmy Brabbins were the only double winners for the SLU men's team. Parker won the 200 free (1:43.17) with the sixth-fastest time in school history before winning the 100 free (47.82). Brabbins placed first in the 100 fly (52.14) and the 500 free (4:52.86). Michael Dahle turned in the ninth-best 400 IM time (4:14.87) in SLU annals, while Billy Hrabovsky's first-place score of 257.65 on the one-meter board also ranks ninth in the Billiken record book. Though he finished second in the event, Chad Carmichael's three-meter dive score (285.15) ranks sixth all time at Saint Louis.
Other individual event winners for the men's team were Tom Costigan in the 100 back (53.21) and Philip Tully in the 100 breast (1:00.21). The SLU men also finished first in the 200 free relay (1:28.24) and the 200 medley relay (1:36.68). The Billikens' 200 medley relay effort ranks sixth in school history.
