Final Stats

Fenton, Mo. - After a scoreless first half, Missouri State's Melissa Lantz scored in the 39th minute to boost the Bears past Saint Louis 3-0 in field hockey at the Anheuser-Busch Center on Thursday afternoon.

In the first half, MSU managed four shots shots at the SLU goal, but Billiken keeper Katherine Deem came up with three saves. The Billiken defense played well and the game remained scoreless heading into intermission. Early in the second half, the Billikens nearly took the lead when Lexie Lindblad battled for the ball to the right of the MSU goal, but her shot went just wide. MSU's Stephanie Chase pushed a pass up the left side, and Lantz tucked a low shot into the SLU cage for a 1-0 lead.

Nine minutes later, the Bears built a two-goal margin. The Billikens had another strong scoring chance in the second half when Alex Weber launched a driving shot which narrowly missed sneaking into the left side of the MSU goal. However, the Bears closed out the scoring with a goal at the 51:16 mark.

The Billikens fall to 1-8 on the season, while the Bears improve to 4-7. The Billikens head right back into action this weekend with two games in Evanston, Ill. SLU faces Michigan Saturday, Oct. 3, and No. 17 Northwestern Sunday, Oct. 4.
